FRANCESCA SPINELLO
Change
The use of denim as the main fabric was required for my thesis project. It was inspired by the film “Pleasantville" and the movie's use of color as synonym of change. The color appears when the characters discover new and destabilizing emotions, investigating their personality and discovering the different facets of it.
I decided to create a collection with pieces that have classic shapes.
Initially, the color will be present only in the lining of the clothes, coming then slowly outside thanks to different kinds of fabric manipulations. In the last outfit the color will finally have the leading position, marking the end of the transition and the change that has occurred.
“And I still don’t see why we’re doing this!”
“Because we’re supposed to be in school.”
“We’re supposed to be at home, David.
We’re supposed to be in color!”
Pleasantville, 1998
